A relaxing space in NW2

Acacia Gardens presents this lovely connected living garden design in West Hampstead, North West London, NW2. Designed by Kathryn Cox from our in-house garden design team, the narrative of ‘Connected Living’ focused on bringing the inside outside. The centrepiece was designing an outdoor room framed with a mini-pergola, surrounded by naturalistic planting. Constructed by a local landscaping company, the design includes the rear garden, front garden, side return and boundaries.

Outdoor Room

A mini pergola brings a touch of contemporary Mediterranean style to London. Designed in the hero sun position, with a fresh, natural elegance. An outdoor room space to bask in the sun, whilst feeling enclosed, surrounded by planting. Matched with shed screening opposite in a mirror design feature.

Naturalistic Planting

The naturalistic planting design sees a mix of grasses, evergreen shrubs and perennials, with a palette of purples, soft pinks and whites, providing flowering highlights in spring and summer. Designing a green backdrop with new hedging, masks the building behind the property, whilst providing a habitat for visiting birds and butterflies.

Natural Materials

A focus on materials with natural, calming hues and golden tones, brought a sense of lightness and warmth to the outside space. A neutral materials palette created a seamless and complementary transition from the inside out. Mixing materials with on-trend porcelain paving and natural timber, provided a design-led aesthetic appeal.

Aesthetic Balance

Ensuring balance for the whole family was paramount. With a large lawn space designed for play and an additional patio for dining directly from the interior, there is space for all. The front garden and side return was designed with the matching materials and planting, ensuring aesthetic balance throughout the scheme.

Creating new spaces to enjoy, which would encourage stepping out and utilising the whole garden was a key part to my design. Colourful planting brings a vibrancy to the garden, which is balanced with neutral and natural tones of the materials. The rear garden, front garden and side return all match in design features, providing one cohesive outdoor space
