A touch of the countryside in the heart of London
Acacia Gardens undertook the landscaping for this lovely Naturalistic
Wildlife Courtyard, designed by Kathryn Cox. Situated in West Hampstead,
London NW6, the space was completely remodelled, to create a garden
which celebrates bio-diversity and sustainability. With places to relax
in the sun and shade surrounded by beautiful planting, this courtyard
has the perfect blend of soft and hard landscaping. This garden won the ‘Pro
Landscaper 2023 Award’ in the design category, Kathryn has recently
joined Acacia Garden as our in-house ‘Garden and Landscape Designer’

Hard Landscaping
Acacia Gardens expertly constructed new garden walls built from reclaimed London Mix Yellow Stock. This new boundary not only increase privacy and security but complements the Victorian terrace perfectly, giving the impression it’s always been there. It also provides a beautiful backdrop for planting.
Soft Landscaping
Soft landscaping was integral to the naturalistic style. Following a precise planting plan and working with the designer, all existing plants were retained and replanted alongside new planting. A new mix of new trees, shrubs, grasses and colourful perennials were planted, attracting pollinators, birds and beautiful views.
Bespoke Carpentry
Every inch has been maximised, with Acacia Gardens constructing bespoke carpentry elements. A corner seating nook was built from FSC Siberian Larch, creating a space to relax in the shade. A matching wall topper creates additional screening whilst framing the 20m2 space.
Paving Installation
We meticulously built paths and patio spaces in sustainable and permeable clay pavers. Specified in herringbone and stretcher bond patterns, the precision required in a small space was achieved to realise the design. The light paving colourways complements the new boundary, lighting up the space.
What was an unused and almost completely paved space, is now a naturalistic wildlife courtyard filled with colour. With spaces to sit
in the sun and shade, my lovely client can feel immersed in nature or
have picture window views from her kitchen. The birds, bees and butterflies love it too!
